Putting Our People First: Supporting Workplace Wellbeing Through Skin Checks
At UHY Haines Norton Perth, our people are at the centre of everything we do. From fostering a supportive workplace culture to prioritising both physical and mental wellbeing, we believe that when our team feels cared for, they are better able to thrive professionally and personally. As part of this commitment, we are proud to have recently taken part in the #ThrowShade Initiative, a proactive workplace program focused on early detection and skin health.
Living in Western Australia means high exposure to sun year-round, both during and outside work hours. Skin cancer remains one of the most common and preventable cancers in Australia, yet it is often overlooked until it becomes serious. By providing access to professional skin cancer checks for our people, the initiative removes common barriers such as time, access, and inconvenience, making preventative health care easier for our team.
The #ThrowShade Initiative aligns strongly with our values around prevention, care, and looking after one another. At UHY Haines Norton Perth, we actively encourage balance, flexibility, and wellbeing as part of life at UHY. Supporting initiatives like this reflects our belief that health is not separate from work, it is an essential part of a positive, sustainable workplace culture.
Early detection through regular skin checks can quite literally save lives. Identifying changes early allows for simpler treatment and better outcomes, reinforcing why prevention focused programs are so important. Our team appreciated the opportunity to take a proactive step for their health in a familiar, supportive environment.
We were pleased to partner with Shade Skin Cancer Medicine, whose clinicians specialise in skin cancer diagnosis and bring a calm, professional approach to workplace care. Their delivery of the program made the experience straightforward, respectful, and informative for our team.
By making skin checks accessible within the workplace, we are supporting our people to look after their health in a practical and meaningful way. It is another example of how we continue to invest in a workplace culture that prioritises care, balance, and long-term wellbeing.
